Beyond Adobe is a licensed general contractor and adobe brick maker based in Sedona, Arizona. Building with earthen materials and methods is our primary focus.

As General Contractors, Beyond Adobe is committed to building affordable, beautiful and sustainable homes. Our true love is Design + Build Projects where we can assist clients from conception to completion; making use of our knowledge in good design combined with efficient use of resources and self-sufficiency strategies. As adobe brick makers, we take great pride and commitment to maintaining and preserving the indigenous methods and materials of earth building. We maintain adobe production yards in Camp Verde, Arizona and Deming, New Mexico. We regularly work throughout the American West utilizing local soils for on-site adobe production, for both urban and rural projects.

As a company and as individuals, we have long standing commitments to environmental and conservation stewardship along with unwavering support for local sustainable communities. We enjoy working with individuals and communities alike to develop, preserve and restore earth buildings.

Adam Wayne

Adam grew up along the stream banks of Alabama and Georgia. Being mired in deep sticky red mud at an early age may have led to his predisposition for adobe brick making and building.

Adam earned a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science at Northern Arizona University where he also helped start NAU Recycles. He continued this environmental based entrepreneurial spirit by working for and creating new ventures from building the Sedona Community Recycling Center to starting and running a local curbside recycling and waste collection company. Today, Adam resides in Sedona, Arizona with his wife Robin.

In 2004, Adam hand formed Beyond Adobe from the local clay soils of the Verde Valley. He currently leads Beyond Adobe as President, Project Developer, and Outreach Educator.

Erik Viik

Erik grew up in Michigan, graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of Michigan, and went to farm. After 6 years of growing he left the farm to explore building opportunities. He's been practicing carpentry for 13 years and working for Beyond Adobe for 4 years as Field Project Manager. When he's not working at some beautiful southwest location, Erik can be found searching for new adventure on rock, in yoga, and with friends and family.

Sylvan Magnus

Originally from Eugene, Oregon, Sylvan has lived in and traveled to many wonderful places. While attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, he studied Environmental Humanities, Photography and Spanish. A desire to build something tangible, functional, and traditional led him to Beyond Adobe two years ago. Currently he is an aspiring Adobero, company Photographer and Web Manager. He enjoys long walks on the beach, fresh Mexican food and the smell of desert rain.
