Pressed adobe blocks (sometimes known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks) are a result of modern day applications of the time-proven tradition of the earth building.
Pressed adobe bricks utilize hydraulic presses and automation to further enhance adobe bricks. Pressed adobes are formed by mixings one’ earth with water to develop a damp, but not wet consistency. The soil is then set in the brick machine’s form, where the force of a hydraulic press, presses and compacts the soil into the desired shape and size. The bricks emerge almost completely dry and ready for building.
Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, both in compression and modulus of rupture. Pressed adobes also provide for quicker and more efficient installation because of their uniformity of size and shape. The hydraulic force increases soil density which increases the bricks thermal mass ratings. And finally, pressed adobes can be made in all seasons because of the reduced moisture contents.
Puddled adobes are formed by mixing one’s earth mix with water to develop a mud consistency. The mud is then laid in forms on the ground to mold the mud into the desired brick shape and size. The form is lifted off the adobe when the mud dries enough to keep the adobes shape without the form. The bricks are set on edge to dry. The drying process can take from one to four weeks to fully cure depending on weather conditions.
Puddled adobes result in bricks with a more individual shape, size and look; no two bricks are quite the same. They provide for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed as the finish wall.

It's a Traveling Adobe Show! Beyond Adobe travels throughout the southwest to make adobes on-site and to raise humble abodes. We have made bricks straddling the Mexico Border and the wind swept plains of northern Arizona. We have mixed mud in the hippie mountain towns of New Mexico and the posh heights of Phoenix.
We love to travel and it shows; the more rural the better!
Often it is more economical to make the adobe bricks on your jobsite rather than to transport the adobes from our yard. Sometimes it is impossible to transport the adobes (due to road conditions, etc) and is much more practical to make adobes on your site. Some times the dirt on he jobsite is just too good to pass up.
Either way, if you want bricks made on your jobsite, we can do it. Anything is possible.
Beyond Adobe will provide full service adobe production at your site - from sourcing earth material to palletized adobes. Full service production includes:
